Prefettura dell'Allier e capitale del Bourbonnais, antico ducato della famosa e potente famiglia Bourbon, Moulins è una città millenaria e ricca di storia, che racconta le sue leggende attraverso le sue vecchie pietre. Nel cuore della regione Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, la città di Moulins sembra essere congelata nel tempo, tanto è ben conservata l'eredità della gloria dei Borboni. Gli amanti della cultura e del bel patrimonio architettonico possono godere di tranquille passeggiate nel centro della città, scoprendo gli edifici che hanno fatto la reputazione di Moulins oltre i confini del suo dipartimento. Moulins è situata sul fiume Allier, che attraversa la città da nord a sud, e prende il suo nome dai numerosi mulini che si trovavano un tempo lungo il fiume. Il suo centro città è dominato dagli alti campanili della cattedrale Notre-Dame-de-l'Annonciation e dal Sacré-Coeur: situato sulla Place de l'Allier, il Sacré-Coeur è la prima chiesa in Francia dedicata al Sacro Cuore di Gesù, la cui costruzione fu completata nel 1870. Considerato da alcuni come un capolavoro dell'arte neogotica, questo imponente edificio può essere visto da tutta la città grazie alle sue due alte guglie che raggiungono i 74 metri di altezza. Situata sulla Place des Vosges, la cattedrale di Moulins è costruita in stile neogotico fiammeggiante del XV secolo, in pietra arenaria giallo-arancio. Le sue pietre nere di Volvic, le sue due alte guglie che si allineano a quelle del Sacro Cuore, ma anche il suo magnifico trittico ne fanno uno dei monumenti più visitati di Moulins. Classificata come città d'arte e di storia, la città di Moulins vanta un patrimonio assolutamente splendido. Il nostro consiglio? Prendetevi il tempo di perdervi nelle vecchie strade, in particolare nella rue de l'Ancien-Palais e nella Place du Jacquemart. Cosa vedere? La torre dell'orologio detta "Jacquemart", nota per il tintinnio delle sue campane, ma anche la Torre Mal-Coiffée, vestigia dell'antico castello medievale dei Duchi di Borbone, il Castello Nomazy, o la Place de l'Allier. Anticamente una grande piazza del mercato, è circondata da molti edifici magnifici, come le Nouvelles Galeries in stile Beaux-Arts (riconoscibili dai loro sublimi mosaici), il mercato in stile Baltard e il Grand Café, considerato come una delle più belle brasserie del paese, avendo accolto Georges Simenon e Coco Chanel. La Place de Lattre-de-Tassigny e la Place de la Liberté meritano una visita, così come il Palazzo di Giustizia e i suoi soffitti trompe-l'œil, la Porte de Paris, le case a graticcio del XV e XVI secolo nel quartiere medievale e la Maison Mantin, l'antico convento dei Bernardines de Moulins, l'Hôtel de Morel, gli hotel Montlaur e Rochefort (Cours Jean-Jaurès e Cours Anatole-France), il Pont Régemortes e il Pont de Fer completano la lista dei siti da visitare a Moulins.
Se Moulins è così apprezzato, è anche per il suo dinamismo. Troverete diversi musei, ma anche molti sentieri segnalati per gli escursionisti e i ciclisti, e potrete anche imbarcarvi sull'Allier per una gita in canoa, kayak o pagaia su uno degli ultimi fiumi selvaggi d'Europa. Bagni e terme, corse di cavalli all'ippodromo e altri intermezzi gastronomici (degustazione di pompe aux grattons, pompe à la tartouffe, manzo Charolais, formaggi e vini regionali) completeranno questo soggiorno a Moulins!
